I was able to get a smooth transition of value and color by using colors different shades and tones that complemented each other. The types of ways I was able to create texture was using the mixer brush and different brushes as well,
so far this is my favorite painting ive seen. it looks natural and almost historically painted like it was from an actual painter way back when if you know what im trying to say. you can tell the brush strokes are very free and smooth which almost adds more personality to the painting. literally i cant think of anything really wrong with this. i suppose the background can have a little bit more going on but its fine as is.
